Review
Let's just skip the pleasantries and go straight to the OMG! part, shall we?
Darren has to face trials to the death. The death?! Isn't that a tad extreme for a kid? I mean, sure the older full vampires did it to become Generals, but they were FULL VAMPIRES BECOMING GENERALS, not half-vampires looking to survive with a shred of dignity. I don't think that they put that into perspective.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the book. I really like the setting here.
There's just something about this mysterious castle inside of a mountain that's just awesome. It has this Romanian gothic feel to it.
I'm glad there is more about the Vampaneze in the series, and it sounds like it will be a pretty big chunk of it.
I don't know how much I trust the princes. Kurda is suspicious to me. He wants to work with the Vampaneze too much. I just don't trust him.
Gavner is one of my favorite characters. He has the experience of an older vampire but he still has a sense of humor. It's fun to see Mr. Crepsley interact with someone like that.
